BC Wine Lover Rides for Cancer Research

Christie and Stacey – "Team BC Wine Lover" rides to Seattle!

You all know I love wine, especially BC wine. But how many of you know that I am also an avid cyclist, and that I will be riding in the 2011 Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer? This is two-day, 260km ride from Vancouver to Seattle on June 18/19, 2011. All proceeds from the money raised go to the BC Cancer Foundation, which provide the funds for cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency. The funds raised benefit cancer patients all across B.C.

This will be my fourth ride in the past two years which breaks the 200 km mark. In June 2009, I participated in the inaugural BC Ride to Conquer Cancer. In September 2009 I rode the Bicycle Trek for Life, fundraising for the BC Lung Association.

In the "Trek," we ride from Hazelmere in South Surrey to Cultus Lake in Chilliwack, and back again the next day. In 2009 it was a warm and glorious weekend. In 2010 I did the Trek ride again, however this time I did so in a five-hour wind swept rain storm. Sometimes you don't luck out on the weather. With all the experience we are getting training in cold, wet weather, we should have no problem if the Ride weekend is rainy. It will be another story if the sun comes out and things heat up though…

My friend Christie Akhurst registered for the Ride this year too, and I thought it would be great for us to team up and ride for BC Wine Lover. We have each personally committed to raising $2,500 for the Ride, and as part of our efforts, we are hosting a fundraising event on Saturday, May 28th at Tipper Restaurant. We'd like YOU to join us on Saturday for this unique and exciting event for a great cause!

The event will feature the musical talents of The Diviners, The Starlings and Diego Brambilla (formerly of Trip). Tickets are $10, and include the entertainment, a food and drink special, door prizes (one of which is a bottle of 8th Generation Integrity 'frizzante' style wine) and more! All proceeds to to fighting cancer (not to my wine budget, really!).

Please join me in my effort to make a difference for those with cancer in their lives. Come to our fundraiser, or if you aren't able to make it, please consider an donation to our team.
