Kids and the Wineries

For the last five years, we have taken our daughter with us to do our wine tastings. In order to keep the peace during the day, we try to limit winery visits to a maximum of four per day. This doesn't leave much time if you have to drive very far to your destinations, but spending some time at the beach or pool in the afternoon is well worth it, for both kids and parents.

Here are some things wineries offer that we have found to be very helpful to look for when visiting:

1. "Kid" wine. This is a sparkling apple juice that is infused with different fruit flavours, such as raspberry, peach, pear, cranberry. If you get to have wine, so should your children, right? Then they can practice and develop their own methods of swirling and sipping!

2. Outdoor amenities, such as a patio or rest area. If you can, travel with another family, then the kids can play outside while you enjoy your tasting inside. This way you can give the server (and the wine) your full attention.

3. An area where kids can do some colouring or artwork. Providing a place for your children to sit for 15 minutes with piece of paper and some crayons can also give you the opportunity to focus on the tasting bar.
