Inniskillin Okanagan Reserve Merlot 2003

It's getting rare when you can find reserve label BC reds for under $20, particularly a 4-year old vintage. This Inniskillin Merlot like the delicious 2002 vintage is smooth with just enough tannins to make it a great partner to milk chocolate or a tender pork chop.

I sensed a bit of an earthy aftertaste that reminded me of mild cigar smoke (2003's infamous Okanagan wildfires might be partially responsible for this), but also a sweetness to it reminiscent of dark cherry.

I would sum this up as a rich wine with a little more kick to it than you would expect from a Merlot. We drank this on its own, but I think this wine would be great with pretty much anything. Another high score for Inniskillin Okanagan!
