Township 7 Vineyards Syrah 2005

Last Saturday Mike and I had the evening to ourselves, as our daughter was sleeping over at a friend's house. So, taking advantage of our free time, we lined up a couple of movies for the big screen TV and heated up leftover Chinese food for dinner: Gooood Times! (Hey, we're parents). It's nice to have a night where you just don't have to do anything but plate the food, pour the vino and turn on the movie.

Unless we have company or it's a special occasion, we tend not to dig too deeply into our BC wine collection so it can bottle-age a bit longer. But Mike pooh-poohed our usual Italian plonk and opened up a lovely Township 7 Syrah which we purchased last summer during our Fraser Valley Fauxkanagan exploration.

Township's 2005 Syrah paired well with our take-out dinner. This BC wine had a nice ruby colour and pleasing nose. We thought it had hints of tobacco smoke, dark cherry notes and a light peppery flavour which mixed well with our cashew chicken dish and veggie chow mein. The wine had medium tannins and a nice finish, but wasn't overpowering in its spiciness.
