Okanagan Wine Festival touring tips for beginners

Wine writer Anthony Gismondi breaks it down with Sophie Lui on GlobalTV BC. I like his first advice…be the grape. Enjoy the surroundings, get to know the terroir where these wonderful BC wines are produced.
Pick a good starting point. He recommends Penticton, which gives you access to wineries to the north (Summerland, Westbank, Kelowna), or to the south (Skaha Bench, OK Falls, Oliver, Golden Mile and Black Sage Benches). We recommend finding an accommodation in Naramata if possible, as it brings you close to at least a dozen very fine wineries, and the surroundings are spectacular.

Take your time, and start early. He recommends you get there at the beginning of the day, maybe visit a couple of wineries, then have a nice lunch! You can't possibly enjoy a trip like this without taking your time and enjoying the moment.
Tony is right, many of the wineries have exceptional tasting rooms. Some like Hillside Estate or Lake Breeze (both in Naramata), or Burrowing Owl and Nk'Mip in Osoyoos have very fine eateries attached for lunch or dinner. Make a reservation if possible.
