Night Out at The Reef on Main Street

Dinner at The Reef
Eat Drink BC: a great dinner at The Reef

It isn't often that Mike & I are able to get out for a bite to eat on our own, so when our daughter planned to go to a sleepover last night, we took the opportunity.

Being something of a locavore, I was interested in checking out an establishment that was participating in Eat & Drink BC, which features a sampling of locally grown food. Our decision was to head to The Reef Restaurant on Main Street to try out their three course menu.

The Reef does not offer a large selection of BC wines (although there is plenty of rum), so we ordered a bottle of their recommended wine to pair with the offered menu, Red Rooster Winery's 2008 Pinot Blanc. Once the wine had warmed up a bit, it was a perfect combination with our meals. A thick curried BC butternut squash and coconut soup was served to start, followed by a main course of two pieces of seared BC albacore tuna, crusted with black and white sesame seeds, served on a bed of white rice and seasonal vegetables. A BC Bartlett pear tart was offered for dessert. For $25.00 per person, this meal was a great value and the food was delicious.

Eat & Drink BC runs until the end of October. I highly recommend trying it out.
