An update from JoieFarm winery
Naramata's JoieFarm continues to grow and earn accolades
We've just received a bulletin from our friends Michael and Heidi of JoieFarm so we thought we'd share it with you.
A Golden Spring Harvest
The spring wine competition results are in and it has been a bumper crop of gold medals and Best in Class awards for JoieFarm. Also of note, we have been recognized by California’s Riverside International Wine Competition with their Terroir Award, “To the winery that displays the best regional character in it’s wines”. This is the second time that we have been awarded this trophy in the past three years. A complete list of our awards to date can be found here.
2012 Critical Accolades
In addition to all of the awards, the critical acclaim for our wines has been overwhelming. The combination of weather, vineyards and our own experience have all contributed to making the 2011s our best wines to date and the critics are in full agreement with us. Our New Vineyard
We have been very busy this spring, planting our new 10 acre Naramata Bench vineyard to 9 different clones of Pinot Noir and 5 different clones of Chardonnay. Amongst this diverse group of clones are several “American Heritage” clones, clippings that originated from Burgundy in the 1900s, pre-phylloxera, that were propagated in California over the past 125 years as well as the best Dijon clones, Pommard clone and Wadenswil, the Swiss clone popularized by Oregon Pinot Noir pioneer David Lett at Eyrie Winery. This vineyard is a 10 year growing experiment to understand which clones excel to the greatest degree in our climate and soils. Once we have a clear sense of which clones are most appropriate to our terroir, we will propagate and graft over to the dominant clones. As the vineyard matures it will become the basis for our Reserve program.
