Accolades for BC from California wine competition

Wild Goose Vineyards and JoieFarm win top awards at Riverside

It's hard not to be excited when we hear our favourite BC wineries getting much-deserved recognition from abroad. The Riverside International Wine Competition describes itself as follows:

For 30 years, the Riverside International Wine Competition has provided consumers and the wine industry with carefully considered results of a blind tasting by professional wine evaluators. A key benefit of this event is to recognize wines in a wide variety of styles, including wine regions that don’t often get such recognition.

Winemakers, restauranteurs, sommeliers and wine writers from across the USA are assembled for this prestigious event. During the 2012 awards BC scored BIG! We've always considered Wild Goose Vineyards and Winery as the bedrock of Okanagan family-run wineries, and they were recognized by Riverside judges as 2012's Small Winery of the Year

Wild Goose Vineyards also won Riverside's top award for white wine. Mystic River Gewurztraminer 2011 ($23) was chosen as the top white wine out of near 2000 wines entered into the competition. Competition judge Daryl Groom declared, “A classic-vibrant, with layers of complexity; a great example of Gewurztraminer!”

JoieFarm also received one of the top trophies, the Terroir Award "…to the winery that displays the best regional character in its wines." Michael and Heidi also won Double Gold/Best in Class awards for their 2011 Re-Think Pink Rose ($21) and 2011 Muscat ($23).
