Tasting Terravista: An Evening in East Vancouver

We recently gathered at Sweet Thea Bakery on Main Street for an intimate tasting hosted by Terravista Vineyards. It was a warm and welcome evening among fellow wine club members — including Stacey and me — as we caught up with familiar faces, picked up our club shipment, and raised a glass to creativity and resilience in BC winemaking.

The event was led by Eric Thor, proprietor of Terravista, and coordinated with the thoughtful attention of our longtime friend Erin Korpisto, who as General Manager also runs the winery’s club program. Guests were treated to a preview of their 2025 whites, crafted in a year like no other.

Adapting to Change: A Vintage Shaped by the 2024 Freeze

The wines we tasted reflect a moment in time. Following a devastating deep freeze in early 2024 that damaged vines across BC’s wine regions, the BC Government made a temporary allowance for wineries to source fruit from outside the province. The result: wines that still express the Terravista style, but through a broader lens — and new terroir.

Among the most compelling releases was the 2024 Fandango – Proyecto Terruño, bottled in April 2025. This version of Fandango blends 51% Albariño and 49% Verdejo, with grapes sourced from three standout AVAs in Washington and California: Evergreen Vineyard (Ancient Lakes, WA), Sheep Ranch Vineyard (Dunnigan Hills, CA), and Grand Island Vineyard (Clarksburg, CA).

With aromatic notes of honeysuckle, lemon, and pear, the wine has a creamy texture thanks to some fermentation in concrete egg. It’s structured yet playful — a versatile white wine with racy acidity and subtle weight, well suited for pairing with seafood like moules au vin blanc. Winemaker Nadine Kinvig has crafted a beautiful expression of adaptability and skill, one that manages to honour the spirit of BC wine even as it ventures beyond its borders.

“A chameleon, depending on the season and the pairing.”

Introducing: En Terre

The tasting also featured Terravista’s long-awaited En Terre red wine series — seven years in the making, and sourced entirely from their Okanagan vineyard. Meaning “of the earth”, En Terre speaks to Terravista’s continued commitment to sustainability, innovation, and mindful winemaking. These reds represent a new chapter for the winery, and it was a treat to be among the first to experience them.

We also tasted a few of the other latest releases, including their signature sparkling Albariño and a still Albariño that showcased the bright, mineral-driven character we’ve come to love from this house.

The event reminded us of what makes BC’s wine scene so special: adaptability, passion, and the sense of community that connects growers, winemakers, and wine lovers alike.

Cheers to the team at Terravista — and to what’s possible when innovation meets tradition.
